Profit and Cost Centers …

I spent around 6 months in a financial department of an institute trying to develop some utilities to make an interface between financial department and other departments to minimize the number of paper work.

So, I had to spend good time in reading and asking about some financial concepts, procedures and terms to be able to develop such utilities. And two of these terms are interesting: Profit Centers and Cost Centers ..

Simply, Profit Centers are the parts of your business where you earn money! while Cost Centers are the other parts where you spend the money.

The most important thing is the balance ! Cost Centers provide the needed services to run the Profit Centers and Profit Centers provide the needed money (or whatever) to feed the Cost Centers.

Normally, in your workplace you should be covered under Cost Center term, but what could be the feeling if you became a Profit Center?  

Request Timed Out …

For IT people who know something about networking … when you want to check on server or power unit if its alive or not you just use a simple command ( ping server-name) here you may receive one of many answers (responses). Here how I deal with them.

1. Reply from server-name : here I smile because the server is alive and replied me. I continue my work.

2. Ping request could not find host server-name. Please check the name and try again: here I know that I made a mistake on the server name or maybe its not published or unknown to my network. I check what I have done and try again .. I check the name too and I check with the one who gave me the name.

3. Request Timed Out: This means that the server is there and known to my network, even its disconnected ! or its configured not to reply ME! In this case I simply check the connection, If its connected I simply close the window and never ping it again !!

A tragic attacks against three hotels in Amman-Jordan, left a 60 dead and over 100 wounded.

I was home, with two of my sisters and my little Brother A, the rest of my family were in a wedding party related to one of our relatives, I was playing chess with a friend when he received a mobile message and asked me to open the TV on the news … and here the shock came ! three hotels have been attacked … I tried to call my family, but this is common in Jordan in such situation : The communication network was down !

We didn’t know at that time in which hotel the wedding party was! and for 3 hours i see the fear and tears in eyes of my brother and sisters.

Finally we could make a call to make sure that they are fine and safe!

Will never forget those 3 hours. and a warm consolation to the “60 dead” families.

My Car …

Its an Opel Omega , production of year 2000 … its 4 cylinders / 2000 CC.

The car is not categorized as powerful or racing car, but its good and heavy with accepted percentage of stability.

the color is white, which is not beautiful (I hear this always from girls), broken right mirror and some hits on the right side. I have good memories with it and i used to drive at night when I feel lonely.

As I mentioned before, I’m not a good driver and my friends used to drive the car even if I’m with them, the car speed is limited to 220 km/h and these are my friends records:

A : 160 km/h (Good Driver and this is what i have seen but i think he exceeded this number while I’m sleeping)

H: 145 (This is what i have seen but he told me he could reach 195km/h but i wasn’t with him)

E: 180 (This is my brother and he could achieve this speed with less capabilities cars)

ME: 200 (Was crazy and lasted for only 3 minutes when my nose recognized a very bad smell coming from the engine)

I want to sell it and buy a BMW … is it a good idea?

WAIT ….

WAIT, this is one of the common words you may hear everyday (or every hour!). How I understand this word:

Word to express that you will not accomplish or get what you want immediately.

Any one can say it, few of them can follow it.

If you don’t want to wait, even your accomplishments will be canceled or you will be delayed more to get what you want.

Today’s wait expires today, this means you have to repeat what you want tomorrow to get a new wait !

How ppl around me use the word wait

Parents, * Never say wait to them, * when they say wait they say it for my behalf.

Boss, * I say wait to him with a full description, * when he say wait to me I just wait and I might write here

Partners, * We say wait to each others most of the time.

As I remember, I hear this word “wait” everyday !

SIS …

Stands for “Students Information System” and it can be “Stupids International Society”, anyways I’m interested in the first one!

Who should have a good SIS? I think no one but what i have seen that schools and universities are interested on it.

Do you gain money by working on SIS? I don’t know, but for me I didn’t gain a lot of money since i was just taking my salary.

Is it Client Application or Web one? I don’t believe in client applications and when you use client application that can be web application I think you are far from Information Technology even if you are IT Manager or Developer or Director of University.

What do I offer? a help as I used to offer, if you have a client application SIS I can make it online, if you have online SIS I can make it valuable SIS, if you don’t have one and can go ahead without it then stay away from me !

My team? all are Seniors, as i don’t have a company or institute i don’t have to hire 10 stupid (and well dressed) employees to watch the only one or two professional employees working …

Technologies? PHP, MySQL, Oracle.

Open Source? I love Open Source, I use Open Source and if you keep watching this blog you will find my Open Source.

Delivery? On time.

I used to be highly available, through physical existence, mobile and email. but I’m receiving a lot of requests, questions and calls and all expect a fast response from me (honestly i put myself in this). One night i had a dream that:

- If my boss called me and I answered him then he will not give me my salary

- If my family called me and I answered them then they will tell me that I’m not their son :S

- If my friends called me and I answered them then they will abuse me

- If my girl called me and I answered her then …. AND I JUST WOKE UP

So I decided to stay calm and put my status to Away for a while ,,, and I really want to know what would happen if my girl called me and i answered the call !!

NAK …

Hey guys don’t misunderstand it …

Since i have graduated from JUST (Jordan University of Science and Technology) to present i have been in 3 official workplaces .. I took the first letter of the name of each one and sorted them by date ascending … I got NAK

I have made many sorts like:

Sort by salary = KAN.

Sort by working hours = ANK

Sort by not-paid efforts = ANK

Sort by experience = NAK

Sort by good team work = NKA

Sort by Satisfied-Status = KNA

Sort by Wish to stay in or to get back = NULL.

How much time I spent in each one?

N: I tried my best to get out of it but couldn’t do that before 4 years.

A: I tried my best to stay there but couldn’t hold more than 1.5 years (=18 months)

K: I didn’t try anything yet.

Bad Driver …

I’m not a good driver, beside I always have problems with directions, when you describe me a location I don’t know, you should expect me to be late or maybe to get lost !

Once I had to go and meet a very nice family to introduce myself to them, the house location is not ambiguous and the man of the house (Mr. M. Sh) described the location fair enough, but I was going exactly on the opposite direction

Using my mobile and many calls kept me in the wrong direction, and finally low battery, and the mobile turned off by itself (i-mate JAMin -I don’t recommend such a mobile -).

I lost the line with “Mr. M. sh” and i had to go home desperate. In my way to home, I found one of the locations which should be around as what i remember. i tried to remember as much as I can and finally I found myself standing by the door of their house

After all I still have problems with directions …. could anyone suggest solutions ??

its simply a site where you can create an account to have your own area to customize or you can use the default created layouts which are really good, this site is one of the largest online community portals on the web, created by a young man who was student when he created it (search on google for more information about this guy!). In the site you can put your data; email, school, university, living places, work places and the portal will search for your friends and let them be in touch with you.

For me I like the idea, the efforts and the contents of this portal. its excellent work and large community where large companies are trying to buy it or at least buy a share like google ! and Microsoft …

by the next year they (webmaster of facebook, monitors who have nothing to do expect watching the new communities over the internet) expect the community to reach 50,000,000 million active user of the site ! Yes Fifty millions users …

what i expect about the site? … as google is now a recognized word in the dictionaries, I expect facebook to follow it in couple of years !
